Not to be nitpicky but I think it's important: I don't know if Rory said that the case would be "dismissed" but rather that the case, in his opinion, had little merit to stand on (paraphrasing). He expressed confidence that this would be resolved swiftly but I did not assume pre-trial dismissal. I don't know anymore specifics than that.
The pre-trial procedures (i.e., request for dismissal) is likely part of the "ceremony" that any defendant undertakes. If you are not requesting, then you are not trying hard enough. Let's put it this way, I would imagine OJ requested a pre-trial dismissal.
Just because dismissal is not granted in no way implies guilt or absence of adequate legal representation. I am not a lawyer but it's plainly obvious to any objective observer that a pre-trial proceeding is just that, not the trial itself. And certainly, cases can get dismissed during the actual trial too.
I do not know Basile as much as you seem to claim. As for his article, I will not judge a lawyer's quality based on an article or blogpost he writes. I will admit that I do not know Basile's court record. But I can't imagine Rory was swayed based on articles written...
The drama goes on but I am not surprised at the judge's opinion. No one outside of his legal circle can claim to know exactly what is going on.
