Carter, it really depends on how many shares you currently hold and the delta (the difference between your current cost basis times number of shares with the cheaper cost basis times how many shares of those you can get).

In order to achieve actual improvement on cost basis, you either 1. Buy a significant number of shares at a smaller price difference from your current cost basis or 2. Buy smaller number of shares at a significantly cheaper price than current cost basis.

Of course you can push it to the extreme by buying significantly more shares at significantly cheaper price to do the most impact.
