IMO the SEC can still recover assets from Edwards family. Edwards stashed his assets in many ways some are crazy but he was slick in his methods of hiding his stolen money.

I don't understand why they can't go after the family money?

Most of it is in China and Russia...long since withdrawn and moved.

If they'd wanted to do that, they should have named family members as relief defendants. They didn't; I don't know why not. Could have done the same with Urbie's family. And Turino's.
