In previous remarks, Director Iancu expressed a need to “carefully balance rights-holder’s and rights challenger’s interests” in AIA trial proceedings. The proposed rule changes appear to be in response to criticism that AIA trial proceedings are biased in favor of patent challengers. The Patent Office has requested input from the public on the proposed rule changes and on how the Patent Office should implement the changes if adopted.
The amount of patent invalidations that were happening across the board in the PTAB process were getting out of control. It’s about time they did something. It was a system that allowed the companies with a lot of money to do whatever because they can always kill the patents...

Maybe things start to turn now against the big infringers. They steal the work from honest small visionaries, get paid for it all along the way, and settle with the inventors for peanuts when they run out of money defending their IP.
