Danielle: To answer your question, if the mid-September AP news story on the Strat was any indication of its' airworthiness, anyone with half a brain could clearly see that the Strat was nowhere near ready to fly.
I think that AP news story was GTE's last hurrah with the Strat. If it did not generate considerable interest and stock sales, then it goes on the shelf. Jones already admitted that the Strat could only attain 2/3rds the required altitude. Go back and read it for yourself. Not only were completion date goals missed, so were design parameters. $3.5M dollars for what? I think someone got wealthy off of that.
Having been a pilot for more than 45 years, I periodically check Palmdale NOTAMS (Notices to Airmen) to see if any have been issued for flights of robotic aircraft/airships at or near that airport. If they fly the Strat, there WILL be a NOTAM issued to advise pilots operating in the area. To date, there have been none.
