#186192 RE: Eli's Gone #186188

If Gleyber Torres can help the Yankees at second or third base while Brandon Drury is on the disabled list and the bats belonging to Miguel Andujar and Tyler Wade don’t start producing, will the club’s top prospect be considered for a big league job?

The year was 2005 and free agent Tony Womack was signed by the Yankees to a two-year deal for $4 million to play second base. But on May 3, Robinson Cano, 22, was promoted from Triple-A Columbus and moved Womack off second base to kick-start a career that could lead him to the Hall of Fame. Following the season in which Cano batted .297 with 14 homers, 62 RBIs and a .778 OPS in 132 games, the Yankees shipped Womack to the Reds for two players and cash. The following season, Cano was an All-Star.
