This is false. There was no R/S. Starbucks did a regular stock split, where if you held 1 share, you now had 2.

Excellent points BIGJJB!! When those short a stock decide to cover due to news coming out or just a big bounce in that stock, they scramble to "Cover" their shorts, buying the shares back, which as you say drives the stock much higher as in the case you personally benefited from!!
