Actually, it is quite common jargon in the industry. You can either deliver nat gas via a pipeline, or deliver nat gas via wire (convert the gas to electricity via a power plant). Coal by wire is another conversion, and was/is used to site a coal plant in a state with less regulated environmental conditions, and transfer that energy by wire to a more restrictive state.
