Hula Hulas, the first in a planned series of farm-to-table restaurants offering entertainment, opened Nov. 2 on Hawaii Island.

Located in Hilo on Banyan Drive, the restaurant sits next to Grand Naniloa Hotel on a peninsula jutting into Hilo Harbor and Kuhio Bay. Hula Hulas, owned by San Diego-based Grand Restaurant Group, will feature live entertainment nightly from its elevated performance stage.

The menu was crafted by chef Amy DiBiase, who brings signature dishes like a lemongrass and rosemary marinated cast-iron chicken. DiBiase is well known in San Diego's food scene, working in acclaimed restaurants Laurel, The Shores, The Glass Door and Tidal, which she left in 2016 to take her current role with Grand Restaurant Group. The menu will change to reflect the seasons and available local ingredients, and vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options are offered. There is a full wine, beer and liquor menu, including 12 draft beers and seasonal cocktails.

"We are excited to provide locals and visitors with a creative twist on the unique flavors of Hawaii," co-owners Brian Bonar
[tag]insert-text-here[/tag] and Sandy DiCicco of Grand Restaurant Group said in a statement. "Hula Hulas is committed to supporting local farmers, fishermen, bow hunters and food artisans, and sharing their stories with our guests."

The Hilo location is the first of five restaurants planned from the company in the Aloha State that will feature menus focused on local fare and live entertainment.

Hula Hulas, with capacity for 273 diners, is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For more information visit hulahulashilo.com.

Dated November of 2017, but could be a possible business opportunity that would be under DFCO.
