Thanks for your answers.

I realize French labor laws are more onerous than ours. However, my confusion is with the way the sentence is worded:

"In order to accommodate French labor law, InterDigital has made an irrevocable offer to Technicolor and certain of its subsidiaries to purchase Technicolor’s patent licensing business."

What does the first part of the sentence (the bolded portion) have to do with the rest of it? We did not make an irrevocable offer because French labor law required it. So what exactly is the implication of the first part?
