BP pulling the plug on plaque and Tau drugs could just be the accumulation of the results. The last several trials were thought to be better drugs at accomplishing the goals of reducing or preventing plaque accumulation, and they have shown no positive results. Consider those as the last best attempt at the approach which has failed.

Also there is increasing evidence of infectious agents being found in the center of the amyloid plaques. That means that eliminating the plaques will further the infection in the brain.

This and other lines of inquiry put a nail in the coffin of the removing amyloid as a valid approach to AD.

My knee jerk reaction was "Well played, Pfizer!"

If I wanted to exit a space I wasn't making good headway in, doing it on the heels of competitors trial failures (I believe there have been several lately) would seem to be a good plan to me.
