What you said before, and it sounded like, was "no" casing... They could run steel casing through the production zones plus some. I think it's something like 200 feet or so above the top zone. Then cement the casing and run that cement all the way up to the surface which would then BE the casing, a cement casing. All these alternative casing methods need to be approved first with each well, and of course tested. Nobody can, of course, leave fresh water unprotected from possible contamination.
