UpNDown - Perhaps a poll is in order

It is in order. To be meaningful, by wallet-votes in the markets, not by posting-votes on bulletin boards.

UpNDown, you should not confuse a lack of response with aquiessence. Some of us would rather let an unprovable but unlikely statement to go by without comment. Sometimes no comment is needed. :)

UND, either way, would your poll make a difference? Better to let the market decide. Intel will have to respond to AMD64 if it becomes a threat in the short term. It will be interesting to either see if a response is necessary, and if so, what that response would be. Given Intel's size and influence on the market, you can be sure they won't give their market share away. So saying that the war is over before the first battle has begun is a little premature, don't you think?

UpNDown The race for the dominant computer architecture is over. With AMD64, the x86 line has won. It's done, done, done and AMD64 is the ultimate winner!

Not so fast :-) AMD64 is a clear winner for now. Yet the race ain't over yet. All depends on the moment when Intel wakes up and decides to offer their 64-bit solution for mainstream.
That's the ultimate wild card!

If x86-64 was introduced whole-heartedly by Intel it truely
would be unstoppable. But AMD is a tiny financially troubled
vendor held in little confidence by major OEMs. AMD64 will
NEVER become dominant without Intel's backing.

Ever heard the expression "the race doesn't always go to
the fastest, or the battle to the strongest. But that's the
smart way to bet!"? That truly applies here. Major OEMs will
bet the company on Intel, they won't on AMD.
