I tried a couple of shorts recently and had small losses on each one. I think GM's value is much lower. But, big problems can happen if GM sinks to the level it deserves. GM has $300bil in bonds outstanding. GM sits is a member of the CRMPG. The big banks are going to do what they can to work GM through all of this. I am sure they are taking strong actions to insure this debt through derivatives and spread the risk to you know who...the little guy.
