"Seems odd that anyone would expect the press"---they did excellent coverage in the past---big news of the progress---why not o some sort of follow-up ???? not unreasonable to ask !!

With no one giving the press any information (MacFarlane, Anavex) there's nothing to initiate coverage other than a try at a human interest angle.
The press is being treated no better than us.
