#1671 RE: Timetravelerdos #1670

Been in MA for 21 years now. I tend to believe in what I see is actually happening in my neck of the woods because of a silly loophole. And I did mention the recreational side, not the medical side. More and more people I know locally are going the medical route for legal protection. You can still get fired for failing a drug test, unless of course you have a medical card. A lot of municipalities also don't want any sort of establishment in their town (half or more at this point), which pushes the opening date for legal business to 2019. That's because MA is a puritanical state, and the vote back in November 16 barely passed because roughly half of the citizens don't want MJ around them at all. There is also a battle going on between the medical facilities and the small time growers and farmers interested in switching crops to MJ over who should get first dibs at licenses. That is slowing things down even more at Beacon Hill. Add a 20% tax rate on recreational pot, and people growing at home and selling on craigslist/social media since the end of 2016, and the picture becomes a little bit clearer. This isn't CO. This is New England, and many here still are fighting to keep MJ out of their communities.

Don't get me wrong. There will be money flowing. But let's not kid ourselves either. Local politics still decides what kind of marketplace takes place. Don't base what will happen here based on what happened in Co. Two different regions, with two different sets of societal norms and business practices.
