Tell Me, I'm a Biologist, Not Takeover Knowledgeable

Ok, let's say a Big Pharma decides to take over little Anavex Life Sciences Corp next year --- with new funds they can bring back from overseas accounts, with new tax advantages.

What might that mean for those of us who hold strong AVXL positions?

Does the buyout company take our owned shares, for which we get certain dollars for each?

Or, is there a share swap, where X number of our AVXLs get swapped for Y number shares in the buyout company?

Do we get do choose either of these conversions?

Of course, because of the great Anavex science, which can successfully treat a good number of severe central nervous system diseases (and others), I personally want Anavex to remain as a single, separate entity, moving, as they will, toward profound growth. I don't want any buyout or take over. But, if that happens, then what, in regard to what I would then own?
