hmm thanks, I figured it was something like that, "using multi-process feature.. E10s". I checked another computer running Windows 8.1 OS, and it also showed multiple firefox processes.

I'll have to read up on it further. thanks again for the link.

My current laptap is from 2011, so it's getting to the beginning of the end of it's life I guess. almost half the hard drive is full.

only 320 GB hard drive. How ancient!

maybe I'll get my old TI 99/4A computer up and running, see how it runs Firefox Quantum!

This explains it well...

One of the headline changes in Firefox 48+ is e10s, which separates the browser interface process from the page content process. The performance impact of this can vary a lot between systems: many users find it faster, some find it slower, for many it's neutral. There probably is somewhat more memory use than when everything runs in a single firefox.exe process.
