Same story for the last 2.5 years even though the hardware
supports it. On my HP Laptop, I was able to find a beta sound
driver and nVidia drivers which was all I really needed.

On the X2 desktop, I needed the same stuff: video and audio and
that was it.

The HP Intel desktop was more problemmatical. It is a ViiV
machine and Intel doesn't put out 64-bit drivers for the hardware
that goes along with ViiV. So if you're laptop is ViiV capable
(or whatever the term is), you may be out of luck until Intel
or Microsoft provides 64-bit support. HP typically labels their
systems Vista-capable but I don't know if 64-bit support is
implicit with the Vista-capable moniker.

If it isn't ViiV, then you can just do the usual work of looking around for drivers on the Intel website.

HP does provide some beta drivers on their support site but it
can take some browsing around to find them. The devices most
likely to give you trouble would be integrated sound and
ethernet if it's an Intel Motherboard. On my Intel desktop,
I just bought PCI sound and ethernet cards with 64-bit drivers
and I was up and running.

PlanetAMD64 can be a good resource to get Windows XP x64 up
and running but I found that you don't get very many answers
when you ask questions about Core 2 Duo there.

When I called HP Support over two years ago and said I was
trying to install x64, they said that it would void my warranty. Well at HP, it seems that sneezing on your machine
voids your warranty. I really didn't care and they were
interested in playing around with x64 so they tried to help.
In the end, I knew more than they did on x64 and found the
answers without their help. I've also overclocked my laptop
many times in the past and I'm pretty sure that voided the
warranty.

You could try downloading the latest version from Microsoft
and then building an install CD. My HP Intel desktop has a SATA hard drive and I assume that the CD is as well. And I installed
x64 from the CD.

The real license costs around $90 from the place that I ordered it. I don't have the name of the place but I got the name from PlanetAMD64.
