Yes, I recall you were there on the plant floor with Vidal and me. My first question was how to resolve the distance factor to Elmore, which he counted as a negligle issue. The 20 per cent factor is not new.
But your question on the percentage mix of new material plus recycled is an excellent one and I don't know the answer. However, the degree of purity of the input ingots is much more important on the Engel machines. Each time you cast in mold there is natural contamination that results from the ingot melt, to the injection through the nozzle and runners and overtime recycled material would have to be totally purified or scrapped. (Even parts of the machine can deteriorate from the heat of the molten material and the actual dies or molds similarly can deteriorate over time and particles end up going into the finished product. Of course, this will have a cumulative effect if the material is recycled and recycled). You may recall that I asked Marcus Lettus in his class if the toggles would fail on the machine early and he said normally the first failure was in the nozzle tip breaking down after much temperature and usage.
These, indeed are issues Materion, as well as Engel must deal with.
But I can't come up with the ratio of new to old material required to maintain a minimum specification of purity.
Sorry. I'll try to follow up on that when I call him in Denver in near future.
PS to Eagle (since I have run out of posts)...If I am a winner at 12/15/18 I probably should buy everyone else ON THE LIST ONLY one drink at the next ASHM. By the way, when will that be?
