Is your 9-1 eastern time? The majority of stock trades still take place on Wall Street. I've read several books that say a norm on Wall Street is to come in an hour or two before the market opens, do research and set up their trades, watch them/enact them for the first hour of trading, then basically do very little/leave the office for a long lunch for 2-3 hours. Then come back and finish the day in the last hour of trade time. Even if we aren't getting many/any Wall Street trades, it affects other traders because they need volatility/volume to set their triggers. Unless there is a report coming out in the middle of the day, without the big traders on Wall Street moving things around, there's nothing for other people to go off of either.
