You may know this better than I, but the real danger is hacking codes, drafting a two page 8K and release false financial reports.

My spouse, who is not sitting at my side right now, was Director of SEC and International Reporting for an NYSE registrant. I can ask, but I did order the software from the SEC to learn Edgarizing. I am not computer savvy, so I eventually tossed it out the window, like the commercials back in the day. I didn't realize pdf format was acceptable.

As a CPA, my spouse collected all the data from legal and the controller and formatted the Ks and Qs, reviewing the MD&A, notes, financial tables, legal, etc. then sent a draft version back to legal, the controller and the CFO for review.

In both my spouse and my instances, I don't recall pdf. But I could be wrong. But yes, they do use HTML, and I do prefer XBRL as a reader, not a publisher. They require CPAs to be current in XBRL, but nobody really enforces it.

So to get to the bottom of my question, can you imagine if a Russian or Chinese hacker accessed the codes of Amazon or Gilead? Just imagine the 8K minutes before the open, one day before the company was to release and the stock options purchased on the respective company would do? Who is going to find someone in Russia? Who can bust a trade at T+1 after the fact?
