My internist has 8,000 patients and the number continues to grow, unfortunately - he's the only Lyme literate doctor in the region I live in, closest other one is hundreds of miles away - he does more than work with Lyme patients, but that's the majority of his cases. I say "unfortunately" because when I first started seeing him in 2006 I was easily able to get appts. every 3 months, now you have to wait 5 months to get one with him, next year will probably be 6 months. In contrast, I can call my PCP and get an appt. that day if it's an emergency, and within a week if it can wait - he has a fraction of the number of patients my internist does - I think he's close to the norm for a PCP - and he's the one I get my V scrips from, not my internist, because of the convenience of obtaining office visits. Doesn't hurt that I could literally walk to his office from my house if I had to, not even a mile away - but trying to cross the road that separates my development from the office park he's in on foot would probably end with me no longer being a contributor to Sam's V scrip numbers, would be road kill.
