When the co. I worked at for 14 years got bought out and I ended up on the losing side and wanting to suss things out I took my 300psi paint sprayer and 300 psi pressure washer and decided to work for myself and get out in the sun. So at the beginning of that spring I made up flyers and hung them on mailbox flags and grocery store bulletin bd.s etc. I was shocked how overwhelming the calls were, anyway I was reconditioning and repairing decks, fences, these 5-10k playsets with treehouses and rock climbing walls built in, power washing drives and walkways so I just started shooting ridiculous prices at these folks who didn't even blink. Peeps in these McMansions were throwing money at me so hard I considered hiring a crew and doing it year round, but sadly decided to tie on the old ball and chain again. One of the reasons, speaking of cancer, was that on hot, humid, airless days I worked and breathed all day in a cloud of oil based stain from my sprayer. Those were the ones the EPA ended up banning a year or so later.
