Bad Science..

I'm sure KIWI could give us a a good reason why the statistics of a study done by doctors being subsidized by the manufactures of these wonder drugs working with an open book...are totally worthless..

In fact: Statins are prescribed to a wide sweep of patients who have elevated cholesterol..Regular posters on this board know that not all patients taking statins are at equal risk...A primary prevention patient with elevated cholesterol could be at considerably less than one half the risk of a patient with the same cholesterol level who has had a heart attack..The ability of these doctors to select the 45,000 who had a "side effect" is not a blinding...and if you are a doctor out to prove statins save lives...then it's easy enough to "cherry pick". to get the result you are looking for...

Furthermore there is no stratification for dosage..Do you think the patients at higher risk might be getting higher doses of statins and these higher doses might produce more SEs and cause more more of the patients at higher risk to stop taking the drug?

This is the great problem with statins..The studies get corrupted by the financial ramifications...JUPITER...Not only the lead investigator have financial conflicts involving the AZN...He also owned the patent on Hs-CRP...And stood to make 15$ Mil if the risk correlated with the lab test..And it did...
