I noticed a lot of stocks drifting lower recently. I would guess a lot of holders of AVXL felt secure with the $5.00 price,as this was the option price. It looks like a lot of trading stops were set below the $5.00 price. When AVXL drifted below $5.00 this set off the stop losses. Going forward AVXL cash position is strong, so they can weather this storm. As many bio stocks they need a successful trial,good partners, or a large buyout to breakout from this trading range.
