I will jump in here, and while not a lawyer, whenever I have had to testify in court, whatever limits the judge places on testimony did not include cross.

If that were not the case, the attorney doing the cross can drag things out and eat away at the allotted time for testimony.

Additionally, while judges may place a time limit on testimony, they often allow it to be exceeded as they do not want that issue brought up on appeal.

Finally there is a lot of court business that occurs and is not counted toward allotted testimony time.

With breaks, procedural issues, etc., I would not be surprised that total daily testimony came in around 4 hours.
