#417957 RE: Paullee #417911

Paulllee: Thanks for that article. The response from the United Patent Reform group is over the top as usual. I wonder who supports their continued slur of patent owners as monster trolls putting small business out of business through extortion by using the threat of litigation for enforcement of patent rights through the use low quality patents? They continue to use words such as "low quality patents". What does hell does that mean? Is there some provision in the patent laws allowing the issuance of a "low quality patents: What is the definition of "low quality patent"? Is there some provision in the patent laws that defines "small business" and guaranteeing them protection from trolls when they become willful or efficient infringers?

Bottom line is these unsupported slurs have been bought and paid for by the efficient infringers with the use of millions of dollars of careful manipulation of the courts and are idiots in Congress who bought into these slurs. Hopefully, these proposed changes won't get buried by Cornyn and the other criminals in Washington.

THE RESPONSE:

The bill, however, wasn’t welcomed by all.

United for Patent Reform, a coalition of American businesses, slammed the legislation Wednesday, saying the bill should be geared towards helping small business owners instead of making it harder for them to combat litigation brought by patent trolls.

“We are grateful for Congress’ continued interest and work to solve the problem of patent trolls using low quality patents to extort settlements from small businesses, but this bill does not help,” Beth Provenzano, vice president for government relations and political affairs at the National Retail Federation and co-chair of United for Patent Reform, said in a statement. “The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing just last week where they heard how things are getting worse, not better, for small job creators trying to work, invest and grow their companies across this country. Now is not the time to take a step backwards.”
