AH, carbon credits. Another Liberal boondoggle. I was working for an engineering company in SoCal when that Liberal wet dream began gathering steam.
Abandoned, often badly polluted tracts of land were being bought up to be used as carbon credit banks. I don't know how it was done but the tracts were assigned carbon credit values.
The owners would sign agreements to not develop the land. Then companies that were violating their carbon foot points could pay actual money for the carbon credits--from tracts that would almost surely never be developed.
Al Gore became fabulously wealthy with variations of this boondoggle.
