Go on, now...beat yourself up. And it's all because of something you didn't even know? That's not idiocy, it's silly.

I've long figured that if only we knew more, there'd be far fewer murders, accidents, bad luck spells, divorces, disease and bankruptcies.

I'll defend you because you deserve respect for trying your best. You may choose to denigrate yourself but I won't help because it gives me nothing I could want. Besides, I can accept that none of is perfect.

So it may come down to this:

What do you gain by self-incrimination?

My hunch is....probably nothing destined to be long-lasting. But if it enables you to maintain faith in a self-fulfilling prophecy? Go for it.

I'll continue to hold you in esteem, undeterred because of a self-destructive act on your part.

We could all wish to have avoided some of our glaring mistakes. I think part of maturing stems from coming to accept our failings.
