Options are complex leverage, with an expiration date. That means timing can be critical. Out-of-the-money (OTM) short dated options are the most potentially lucrative and most dangerous; there is no escaping the risk/reward trade-off.
Regarding timing, amateur investors - particularly in biotech - underestimate how long it takes for a drug to get developed. Buy an OTM call option that is too short-dated and you lose all your money, even if the company is ultimately successful.
