Gateway put their faith in a cow too. They got caught in a downdraft and Dell killed them. Intel stepped in and seized the moment and made them a deal they couldn't refuse. I know several people with AMD based Gateways and they have been flawless.

People keep saying the cost of supporting AMD is a problem.
Seems to me they could just hire some techs to handle AMD systems and direct callers there. Besides than, Dell is farmimg mpst of there tech out to India at a greatly reduced cost.

Second advantage is dell only has to provide service and support for CPU's from one supplier that it has very close ties to.

That's one of the most ridiculous arguments ever used. CPU needs no service or support. Anyway, much less than a floppy, hard drive or a power supply, and Dell swaps these freely.
