NASA farms out moon rocket

"The last time NASA awarded a manned spaceship contract to Lockheed Martin of Bethesda, Maryland, was in 1996 for a spaceplane that was supposed to replace the space shuttle. NASA spent $912 million and the ship, called X-33, never got built because of technical problems."

Kevenaok thanks for the article in your post. I did not think I could be more disgusted with our political system than I already was.

Thats right people,LOCKHEED MARTIN needs MORE money to complete their airship!

So let's get the politicians and lobby involved, top it off with a nice picture and a "look at us, we are providing jobs", the community is even paying too!

If I lived in one of these counties I would be SCCCCRRREEEAAMMMINGGG WTF. "Akron and Summit County governments are helping fund the project along with Lockheed Martin"

Thanks for the post Kevin. Seems that LM has the support of politicians attempting to create jobs as they posture themselves for mid-term elections. This way they can say they have done something for the people in their districts when they bid for re-election. Too bad we can't round up the Florida/California delegation to challenge this budget proposal as being a wasteful endeavor when GTE is able to make greater headway for much lower cost (can we say cut the 'pork'?). Granted that I am speculating that Sanswire will be able to deliver the airship as some might suggest. However, I believe that there is much evidence (via recent NR, Vern's postings and the fact that we are in the Palmdale facilities NOT making movies!) that Sanswire/GTE is working on a tangible product that is currently at best, a similar dream or 'concept' for LM. Now I understand that they (LM) have government ties and have been in the business in securing contracts from the government. But is it not also true thay they have not delivered on what they've promised on some projects to the tune of several million (see grapes' post#39829)? I won't argue the fact that we have to prove ourselves. I believe that it's not a matter of "if" but more like "when". We have heard many (or a few) shareholders complain and challenge GTE's operating expenditures. My question is, are they posting with the same voracity and outcry about how our taxpayers money is being spent on LM's dreams (or potentially failed dreams?). It would be nice to see our government, comparison shop before making the commitment to appropriate "our investment" with LM "concept".

Wow, Kevin. Awesome find!

They were already award 149M, and they still need ADDITIONAL funding?! This just makes my head spin.

Either Murtha isn't aware of what's going on with all other companies involved, or Lockheed is lobbying for the additional funding.
