CombJelly, not sure why they kept it secret. I can speculate that since the memory will take more development & will not impact 2004 product, AMD didn't think it was worth talking much about. I don't think there is near-term product in Coatue, it is a long-term strategic purchase to have a patent arsenal (as well as potential product) in the flash & DRAM replacement technology. IMHO.
CJ, it's the secret part that has me thinking your scenarion 1 is right, although I suppose they might have wanted to slip in under the radar if they had the contractual issues and thought that if it were made public, they might have some purchasing competition.
