No I don't think that at all. But it may well be that the treatment is ineffective on its own. That wouldn't diminish Dr. Liau's efforts. Maybe it will work in combination with something else? Trial failures and successes will ultimately pave the road to improved treatment.
However, If a futility rec has been covered up for an extended period of time, I will hold all parties involved responsible.
