My point is the burning of these toxic pits had nothing to do with Iraqi policy, Saddam, or anything else locals may have been doing to get rid of garbage. These pits were dug by us specifically to burn toxic refuse in the open air. The resultant fumes poisoned thousands, many of whom were our own troops. To try and lay the blame on Saddam or the Iraqi's is simply wrong. Before we went there and destroyed their country the Iraqi's were doing just fine for a third world country.
