Article yesterday on Seeking Alpha by Lan Simonian. An intelligent, fair man, whose knowledge of Alzheimer's disease is well-known. He has written many times of the virtues of 2-73, though he has no position in the stock. Article is about the progress in the fight again Alzheimer's. In the Comments he makes this reply to someone who asks his opinion of Neurotrope (certainly nothing profound, but interesting nonetheless):
Author’s reply » Bryostatin in the long-term significantly down regulates protein kinase C and this may be helpful during the early stages of Alzheimer's disease because during this phase protein kinase C activates NMDA receptors and leads to the production of oxidants.
Bryostatin 1...down-modulate protein kinase C-alpha
To loop back to amyloid:
"Malinow’s team found that when mice are missing the PKC alpha gene, neurons functioned normally, even when amyloid beta was present. Then, when they restored PKC alpha, amyloid beta once again impaired neuronal function. In other words, amyloid beta doesn’t inhibit brain function unless PKC alpha is active."
But as Alzheimer's disease progresses, protein kinase C activity declines due to damage to upstream receptors. There may then be a window of time during which bryostatin could potentially be effective."
