Couple things that you are leaving out would be that they need Kaplan artificial gene. Then they need clients in China since the patents involved would stop the end user. The Chinese can disregard the patents all they want but UA Nike etc won't use it due to patent infringement issues.
If the Chinese want to knock it off they will be stuck with only internal sales. And even the they still have patent issues internally. Though that is much less of an issue there
