did you
lose money on the trade sounds like you did. When too many people
are short it is just too easy to get them to cover.

that said they do not cover right away. they will wait 2-3
hours of pain (james dalton).

ES today hit 2258 and a major green supply candle and the market
at 6am just punished the shorts. all short term traders just
going back and forth.
