my humble understanding of the .95 pricing was introduced by the Chicago Tribune or some other newspaper in a big city during the Great Depression.. the Idea was created by the newspaper.. The reason was as follows. Newspaper gave retailers a break on advertising their products with prices ending in .95 thus a nickle change was returned to the consumer... ( the price of a newspaper ) now that is marketing.. some teacher told me this story 30 years ago I believe him.
