On AtomicBob's board, I made a post speculating about why the announcement of the Apple license did not deliver as much bang as one might have expected. The post got me branded a short by the usual suspects. One of my speculations was the probability that Pegatron revenue would cease. It is pretty obvious from the Q4 revenue guidance that the overall Apple royalty rate is significantly lower than the rate Pegatron was paying. The result is that overall IDCC revenues will not increase much above the recent run rate. However, the Apple playing field has been leveled.
It appears to me that Sharp and Pegatron were outliers that have now been brought back into the normal region. That, more than anything else, bodes well for the future.
