Has anyone come up with a (credible) theory that Alzheimer's is more than one distinct disease or perhaps has multiple factors that lead to the later stage symptoms?

Interestingly, I've been looking at light chain amyloidosis where the sink hypothesis seems to have *some* relevance. I'm skeptical that reducing circulating free levels of the relevant amyloid protein will reduce fibrils, as the latter tend to be very stable. However, there does appear to be some evidence that reducing the circulating amyloid protein below a critical concentration has a benefit on target organ function, even if there is no visible reversal in fibrils.
