No your missing the point (This one is not really about cano) sometimes going out and spending a ton of money for a 2nd choice is not a wise idea even if you miss out your top choice. Spending money on ellsbury was a bad idea, you don't correct missing out on a good member of the team because you suddenly become price watching, only to go and then drastically overpay I won't let it go because they then went out and spent 21+ million a year on ellsbury a guy who has never hit more then 10 homers twice when he signed with them, when cano was only 24 million a year. ellsbury is not a 400 obp guy, he doesn't steal 100 bases a year, there was no reason to sign him, you even had a cf type with gardner allready on the roster.

Mets missed out on Mike Hampton, they signed kevin appier which was a huge mistake. then they compounded it by trading for mo vaughn. My point is middle of road FA that you pay alot of money for is absurd. Or the above average player that you pay like a star such as ellsbury, especially when you go long-term. I rather have a 10 year 240 million contract of cano then a 7 year 153 million contract ellsbury signed we know cano is gonna be a bad contract and there was reason not to go 10 years I under stand that, but I rather have a guy who lives up to the contract for half or 60% of it, then a guy who never plays like his contract. Just sayin.
