In hindsight, I'm sure Francona didn't want the game to end on Martinez' bat--that said, Bryant was cramping up, had the ghosts of two bad throws in the back of his head, had to field and throw a wet ball with the tying run on base with 2 outs in the 10th and the WS on the line for the 1st time in 108 years, and his right foot slipped---he made a great play to end it...

If what you're saying is, Francona did far more with far less, I agree wholeheartedly.
