Btw, the word is "Strain" not "Strand."
The device "sniffs" the sample for several minutes and matches it to a profile in a database that is growing all the time. It cross references values back from that data base. That is also how you would have to do it for a Portable GC unit as well because of the complexity of cannabis. Those devices are designed to detect chemicals but they are not designed to identify STRAINS.
As the database grows, the accuracy increases. If you used GC in the palm of your hand (which you can't) it couldn't tell you what STRAIN you were holding until you had defined the STRAIN for it first. And being that STRAINS are a rainbow of relationships, there will be an ongoing effort towards defining them.
It will never replace a lab, was not designed to do so, yet is the only device in the world that can tell you what STRAIN you are smoking. Period.
