10:41 ET - There's been more than some "woe is me" attitude among analysts and investors regarding where Apple(AAPL) finds itself as year-over-year iPhone sales fall for the first time. So ahead of the after-the-bell F3Q report, keep this in mind: While yes, Wall Street is anticipating earnings to be down more than 25% below year-earlier levels at around $7.7B, AAPL will still log BILLIONS of earnings for the spring. And while the company might log its smallest profit in 2 years (3Q14 had $7.75B) or 3 (4Q13's $7.51B), AAPL remains an earnings machine. Contrast that with Exxon (XOM), whose 1Q profit tumbled to $1.8B from $9.1B two years earlier. AAPL shares are up slightly today but down 6.5% since its prior-quarter report.
