I have no oil experience, but to me that looks like a plug. Whether it's at the Tarach-1 site, who knows. Whether its a type of plug that can be re-entered at a future date? Beats me. We don't know anything until ERHC tells us. Even if the unnamed source is correct, and the well was plugged. We don't know if the well was plugged and abandoned, or if it was plugged with the intention to re-enter at a future date, whether they had oil shows, but decided the location wasn't the proper location for a producing well, etc. It's all speculation until ERHC advises us of what was found.

It is the rig's blow out preventor that is used in all drilling operations to handle any well control issue's. Once the rig is moved out of the way this would be the last thing to rig down and it would be rigged down whether the well was a dry hole or if it was to be produced.

If it is a dry hole they will cap the well if they were going to produce they would rig up a production tree. However, even if it was a good well I am sure they would not rig up a production tree yet as there is not anyway to get to market yet.

Long story short there is nothing to read into the BOP in the picture.
