Looks like a great way to seal the members 10 l and r together with the 20.
Especially appreciate the flexibility of the detentes being either rectangular or hemispherical. Either set of 30 and 40 or the 10 and 20 should be perfectly, water tight, perhaps air tight and functional at minimal cost

Shows that Li has some capable design people able to work around CIP's better half.
