Bundling promotions probably started long before the McDonald's Happy meal. They're great ways to generate added value for the consumer and added profits for the retailer.
I agree with you, bundling glasses with liquor doesn't thrill me. I have a lot of "2-glass" sets.
During the holidays, being the known drinker that I am, it seems as if friends and family opt for a "go-to" present for me that always includes liquor. They must still think I need more glasses :-)
Now I serve desserts in them !!!
Soldier has seen the sampler packs of boxed 5's of Jefferson's bourbon. Those are great for tastings and comparisons.
I believe Schweinemeister has been on fire over noticing in some bars they serve Dark n Stormy's with Gosling's Ginger Beer but a counterfeit rum.
At some point I think he mentioned that Gosling's should be doing a commercial bundling promotion to bars and restaurants. That would be pricing a case of Black Seal with several Ginger Beer cases to encourage the "legal" combination. Toss in some promo posters and it's a "local-winner".
Maybe Gosling's should find some "hot-cops" to arrest bar owners and staff on counterfeit charges. The "bail-money" would go towards the bundled Black Seal and Ginger Beer.
It might be a very "hot" promotion if professionals get involved to run it.
Some retail magazines and trade rags would pick it up. It could turn into a very creative guerilla marketing promo.
