Actually, Cook recently said they were open to making major acquisitions (in the face of shareholder ennui over the recent financials, issues with organic growth, Icahn pullout, etc). However I doubt very much that LQMT would be a major acquisition of interest, it certainly is not worth $2 billion as some have suggested, and besides Apple already owns rights to the IP it needs, in perpetuity. I just wonder what contractual rights Apple might undertake to exercise in light of the apparent change in control that is coming upon shareholder approval. I also wonder what role the Chinese military backed government and the US government may be playing in all of this, if any. We are blind as outside shareholders.
